Looking for Udaipur as an option for a Destination Wedding? Of course, the first question that comes to everyone’s mind is the Budget. Let me break the myth right away that Destination Weddings DO NOT cost a fortune if planned well. In this blog, I shall give you a tentative idea of the budget while you plan your wedding at Udaipur.

Two kinds of Locations you can choose from:

  1. Palatial Location which you see in movies or all over internet
  2. High-end Hotel or a Resort

There are plenty of options for both but cost varies a lot.

COST OF FUNCTION

1. A Fairytale Palace Wedding – Venues
Udaipur is a historical town, Palatial locations which are centuries old have been the most premium and exotic venue for weddings. I would refrain naming the location but most of these locations host festivities and have pre-determined packages including venue, meals, may be some standard decor for banquets, welcoming of guests etc. These venues do not offer accommodation or Rooms

These top of the line venues (one of them is located in the centre of the lake and is known for celebrity weddings) charge INR 10000-12000 per person subject to a minimum guaranteed the number of guests.(Rates do not change drastically even if you are expecting a large gathering)

Which means for an evening which consists of 2 Functions for about 150 guest list would simply be Rs. 15 to 20 lakh per function.

2. High-end Resorts or Hotels

There are also few Palatial locations which are not historical but are constructed the way to look like Palace and are amazingly done up. The names like The Leela, Sheraton and Chunda Palace may even sound familiar to you if you have researched a bit. These are full-service 5-star Hotels and offer Rooms, outdoor and indoor venues which may even be lake front.

Much economically priced to be Rs. 2000 – 4500 per person for Gala Meals and basic banquet setup. Which means for an evening which consists of 2 Functions for about a 150 guest list would simply be Rs. 3 to 7 lakh per function

P.S.: Udaipur also has some of the offbeat Palace locations (within 2 hours drive) that are more apt for a smaller gathering below 100 guests.

COST OF STAY

  1. The average cost of per night stay for top line Palace Hotels is Rs. 30000 – 35000 per room. They do not offer a large room inventory and for a gathering of 100 guests you may have to split the stay in 2-3 Hotels

2. Hotel or Resorts do normally have large Rooms invent that’s the biggest plus with them. A large gathering could be conveniently accommodated under same roof with a complete privacy. The average room rates are Rs. 8000 to 15000 per night.

Summing up,
2 nights stay in Palace like Hotels or the actual Palaces for 150 pax (60 Rooms) could budget from INR 10 lakh to 40 lakh

Note: These Palatial Hotels may ask for a minimum number of Rooms to be booked with them in order to organise an event with them since they do not allow the non-resident events which may disturb the residential guests. The top of the line Palace venues selectively take up the weddings every year. Hence, plan very well in advance

COST OF DECOR

Earmarking INR 10 to 12 lakh for Floral decor & arrangements, Mandap, Lighting & illumination etc. which are part of setup should be a moderate amount. If you are keen on exotic flowers & a designer stuff, this would go up to INR 30-35 lakh

If your idea is different and you would like to completely transform the venue and want to go with some designer concepts, sky is not the limit. Ordering 30-35 lakh worth of exotic flowers from Thailand is pretty much convenient for example.

Setup and decoration is best planned by your preference, taste and budget. Let your Wedding Planner know about this upfront so that venue selection & things are planned accordingly.

OTHER COSTS

The list could be really long but some of the major cost heads which need to be budgeted are:

  1. Transportation & ground arrangements
  2. Photographer & Videographer
  3. Entertainment
  4. Sound setup & DJ
  5. Procession or Baraat (Elephant, Lance men, Camels & Horses, Fire torches, Drum Players etc.)
  6. Professionals like Mehendi, Hair stylists & Make up Artists, Pandit/Maharaj

The overall budget may run from INR 30,000 to Rs. 1 lakh person for 2 nights stay, meals, festivities etc.

With a guest list of 150, you would end up spending anything between 45 lakh to 1.5 Cr depending upon the choices as above.
